minimising waste at swansea university

minimal waste is one of the eight key opportunities for swansea university identified within our sustainability strategy 2016-2020.

our minimising waste target for 2019/20 is to increase our diversion rate from landfill and energy recovery from 63% to 69%, and we need everyone to do their bit to help us get there!

our students, staff and visitors to the university all have a role to play in minimising the amount of waste we produce. from donating items to the on-campus british heart foundation drop-off banks and recycling old stationery, to disposing of chemical waste, there are loads of ways you can help us reach our waste reduction target.

at swansea university we provide a range of recycling resources across our campuses to ensure everybody on campus disposes of their waste correctly and efficiently. we make sure all our waste is effectively sent for reuse, recycling or appropriate disposal.

on our staff intranet and our student-facing myuni webpages, we provide university staff and students with all the essential waste and recycling information, advice and guidance they need in order to help us reach our 69% target.  read our waste management plan to find out more.

within our 'waste at swansea' page below, you can read about the recycling and recovery progress we've made so far; and within our 'legal requirements' page, you can explore why it's so important for us to carefully manage our waste here at swansea university.

there are arrangements in place for a wide range of waste streams, either by direct disposal or recycling or through reuse by external companies. if you can’t find what you're looking for on our pages, or have any questions or ideas to support us, please email us. if you'd like to know more about how we recycle our waste, please read the waste guidance notes below:
